Firefighters were called just after 8am to reports of a fire at a residential block of flats on Queens Road West, affecting the 10th floor, where the balcony and flat interior are on fire. Three men exited the flat prior to the Brigade’s arrival and received treatment on the scene by paramedics. Approximately 30 residents were evacuated from the building, with around 70 firefighters and ten engines responding to the emergency.
A spokesperson for London Fire Brigade noted, "Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are responding to a flat fire on Queens Road West in Plaistow. The cause of the fire is not yet known." The urgency of the response was emphasized by the Brigade's Control Officers, who secured over 30 calls reporting the incident shortly after it began, showcasing the immediate danger and community concern surrounding the fire.
