The UK's first exhibition of neo-impressionist master Georges Seurat in 30 years is coming to London
Briefly

The Courtauld Gallery is set to host an exhibition titled 'Seurat and the Sea', focusing on the seascapes of French neo-impressionist Georges Seurat. This will be the first major display of his work in the UK in three decades. The exhibition will feature around 23 of his sea-themed paintings, sketches, and studies created from 1885 to 1890 along the northern coast of France. Seurat’s aim was to capture the clarity and nuances of nature, providing a refreshing contrast to his city works, which he often escaped from during summer.
The exhibition - 'Seurat and the Sea' - will be the first exhibition of the French painter's work in the UK for 30 years.
Seurat himself said he made seascapes 'to wash his eyes of the days spent in the studio [in Paris] and to translate in the most faithful manner the bright clarity, in all its nuances'.
This show will bring together around 23 paintings, oil sketches and drawings made during five summers he spent on the northern coast of France, between 1885 and 1890.
2026 feels like a long way away, and a lot can happen in a year, but you know what they say: que Seurat, Seurat.
