More than half of the British public (53%) think having public transport to and from work is a necessity, while just one in five see a car as essential (20%).
40% of those who drive regularly wish to use public transport more often, and 38% want more opportunities to walk or cycle.
Seven in 10 people have changed their travel habits in the last two years to reduce costs, and 42% are concerned about affording transport for daily travel.
