Steve McQueen's installation 'Grenfell' (2019) features a 24-minute film capturing the remains of the London tower block that was destroyed by a fire in 2017, resulting in 72 deaths. After its initial showing at the Serpentine Galleries, the work entered collections at Tate and the London Museum. Supported by Arts Council England and the Art Fund, a national tour is set for six UK cities, conveying the haunting legacy of the tragedy and preserving the memory of the victims, including artist Khadija Saye.
"The resulting 24-minute film shows us, in one unedited shot, the footage McQueen created that day, providing a glimpse of the interiors of what is now essentially a pyre."
"Grenfell Tower remains the final resting place for many of those who died that night, a poignant reminder of the tragedy as the film plays without words or music."
