Transport for London (TfL) is seeking partners to develop solar farms that would generate up to 64 megawatts of zero-carbon electricity for its Underground network.
This project represents approximately 5% of the Tube's electricity needs, allowing TfL to bypass the National Grid and reduce pressure on central grids.
According to TfL, it is the largest single electricity consumer in London, consuming energy equivalent to that of 420,000 homes.
Lilli Matson stated that through green energy initiatives, TfL aims to help London meet its net-zero carbon target by 2030, creating green jobs.
