On Valentine's Day, London's Mayor Sadiq Khan launched an initiative aimed at reassuring residents of their value and promoting the city's diversity as its greatest strength. This campaign, unveiled in response to past civil unrest and rising fears among Londoners, is supported by a funding package of nearly £1 million for community events. The effort seeks to create a stronger sense of unity, celebrating all backgrounds, as Khan emphasizes the importance of vigilance against increasing hate crimes and ensuring everyone feels welcomed.
What this campaign is about is improving the sense of unity in our great city, making sure everyone, no matter what your background, feels this is a city where you're loved and wanted.
We've seen since October 2023 a massive increase in anti-Semitism, in anti-Muslim hatred... many Londoners felt really scared.
This campaign seeks to show the world that diversity is London's greatest strength and that people from all backgrounds are celebrated and welcomed.
The package comprises 600,000 from the Government's Community Recovery Fund... along with 385,000 from the National Lottery Community Fund.
