Transport for London (TfL) is set to introduce the Bakerloop express bus route, connecting Waterloo and Lewisham. This service is part of the expansion of their Superloop network, which aims to double express routes. Services may start as soon as autumn 2023, aligning with the opening of the Silvertown tunnel. The Bakerloop will also support planned Bakerloo line extensions. While the route is backed by Southwark Council, securing full funding remains a challenge. Consultations will conclude in March 2023, as TfL investigates further service expansions.
This vital infrastructure would not only provide better transport links and upgrade the existing line, but also unlock thousands of new homes and jobs.
The Bakerloop bus service would be part-funded by Southwark Council through its levy on new developments in the area.
