The Metropolitan Police has said sorry to the mother of Stephen Lawrence's mother for failing to fulfill a promise to answer questions stemming from a BBC investigation into the murder.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Matt Ward... promised he would send over a written explanation about White and other issues. Two witnesses said White had confessed to being present during the attack.
Mr Ward eventually replied: 'I can offer no further consolation other than my professional embarrassment and personal regret.'
Stephen Lawrence was murdered by a group of five or six racist attackers in south-east London in 1993.
