The Met Office has warned that Storm Ashley could cause injuries and danger to life as 80mph winds hit parts of the UK on Sunday.
Met Office meteorologist Aidan McGivern noted that Storm Ashley is expected to deepen quickly, resulting in widespread gales and wind gusts exceeding 60mph.
Wind speeds reaching 80mph could lead to considerable disruption and damage, especially with flooding risks for coastal communities coinciding with high tides.
The amber warning is applicable in north-west Scotland, while a yellow warning affects Scotland, Northern Ireland, and parts of England and Wales.
