Havering Council has approved the Romford Masterplan, which aims to revitalize the town center over the next 20 years, focusing on economic growth and enhancing the high street.
Council member Graham Williamson described the masterplan as a "blueprint for sustainable growth" that aims to respect the town's heritage while fostering future economic and cultural vitality.
Leader Ray Morgon highlighted that the masterplan could bring a greater variety of shops, restaurants, and leisure spaces, ultimately improving the entire area's appeal.
The plan includes turning the market into an events space, redeveloping underutilized sites, and improving public safety and the natural landscape surrounding the River Rom.
