A man was taken to hospital after a blaze in a maisonette caused by a cigarette that was not put out properly. The fire was under control by 9.27 pm, believed to be accidental due to improper cigarette disposal.
The London Fire Brigade emphasized the importance of fully stubbing out cigarettes and using ashtrays to prevent fire risks. Smokers were advised against smoking in bed or on flammable furniture.
The brigade recommended not smoking indoors, but if necessary, they should use sturdy ashtrays and avoid smoking on soft furnishings to prevent potential fires. Extra caution was advised when tired, on medication, or after drinking.
