Londoners were clear on the many improvements that were needed, says Met Police boss Dame Lynne Owens
Briefly

The Metropolitan Police Service has demonstrated significant improvements, validated by their exit from special measures. With a core commitment to community engagement, they’ve focused efforts on crime types most impacting Londoners, particularly addressing gang-related violence. Recent operations in Edmonton led to 434 arrests and substantial crime reduction. Response rates for emergency calls have improved dramatically. Additionally, they’ve bolstered efforts to combat violence against women and girls by increasing support for victims of sexual offences. Investments in officer resources and training are emphasized to enhance service delivery and accountability.
Our relationship with the people we serve is at the heart of everything the Met does. We are focused on more of the crimes that matter most.
Despite dealing with greater demand than ever before, 2024 saw an average of 86 percent of 999 calls answered in 10 seconds, up from 77 percent last year.
