British art does have a real significance and Mitchell's work seems to tap into something interesting. It seems wrong to disregard heritage like this so easily.
They were trying to enliven the environment, to bring some bit of fun and colour and interest to buildings and spaces that had been rather grey and austere during the Second World War and immediately afterwards.
