Islamophobic cyber attack' at major train stations sparks police investigation
Briefly

Police have begun investigating a cyber attack that targeted the public wifi at several of the UK's busiest railway stations, displaying Islamophobic messages. The attack affected Manchester Piccadilly, Birmingham New Street, Edinburgh Waverley, Glasgow Central, and numerous stations in London. Operators emphasized that, due to the nature of the wifi service, no personal data was believed to have been compromised, while services are expected to resume after thorough security checks may be completed.
Network Rail's statement highlighted that the incident occurred when passengers attempted to log into the wifi service and instead encountered a webpage titled 'We Love You, Europe,' which displayed alarming content related to terror attacks. This prompted immediate action from British Transport Police, who were contacted promptly to assess the extent of the cyberattack and initiate an investigation with Network Rail and Telent, the third-party provider responsible for the wifi.
