Thelma Stober, a survivor of the July 7, 2005 London bombings, lost her lower left leg but focuses on remembering the 52 victims. On that day, she was on the wrong train, having changed her plans to continue working after celebrating the successful Olympic bid. Standing by the memorial in Hyde Park, she recalls her harrowing experience and thoughts of family during the chaos, emphasizing her survival and desire to honor those who did not make it.
Although I lost parts of my body, I am still here to tell the story, to represent those who are not.
I was thinking of my son, my mother, my husband.
I was on the train later than usual because I had taken my son to nursery as I had promised him.
Then as I was walking towards the platform, I saw a train and I ran for it.
