A significant fire erupted at a warehouse in a scrap yard on Maypole Crescent in Erith, southeast London, shortly before 23:00 BST. Approximately 150 firefighters were engaged in battling the blaze, which also affected three diggers and several vehicles; however, there were no injuries reported. By 06:52 the following morning, the fire was under control. Residents nearby were advised to close windows and doors due to smoke. The operation involved 25 fire engines and aerial support, including fireboats from the River Thames.
About 150 firefighters tackled a large fire at an industrial estate in south-east London. The blaze broke out at a warehouse in a scrap yard on Maypole Crescent in Erith shortly before 23:00 BST on Friday.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) said three diggers and several vehicles were also alight, but there were no reports of any injuries.
Twenty-five fire engines were sent to the scene, along with two 32-metre turntable ladders, which were used to provide an aerial view and deliver water from above.
One of the brigade's fire boats was also deployed to assist firefighting from the River Thames. The vessel can pump 2,500 litres of water per minute using its remote-operated monitors.
