G-A-Y Bar in Soho has been put on the market due to troubles surrounding its sister venue, Heaven nightclub, which faced a temporary closure after an alleged incident involving security staff. Owner Jeremy Joseph expressed deep sadness over the decision, emphasizing that nightlife is suffering from both financial strains and bureaucratic resistance to late licenses. Following a tumultuous time and having lived above the bar for over 15 years, he noted that the culture in Soho has deteriorated, diminishing the appeal of LGBTQ+ venues.
"It's a constant uphill battle and another fight in the cost of living crisis which has negatively impacted all of the hospitality sector."
"This isn't an easy decision. To me it is more than just a bar, it's also my home - I've lived above it for over 15 years."
