From Routemasters in Sweden to a bus hijack in Brixton: LT News 1995 revisited
"Transport for London (TfL) has a large corporate archive and has been digitising its old staff magazines. Older ones are bundled into huge PDF files, but more modern staff magazines are more digestible. So here's a look at what the London Transport staff newspaper, LT News, was writing about in 1995. August 1995 Six Routemaster buses made a trip to Sweden to provide transport for British athletes at the World Athletics Championships. And 40 headed to Brighton for the annual Brighton Routemaster run."
"An open-top bus has returned to route 12 A family travel ticket went on sale in some tube stations and newsagents The Royal Free Hospital is offering a 10% discount on tattoo removals for London Transport employees Newbury Park bus stand has reopened following repairs. Making bus travel easier to understand London bus drivers set to receive a profit share from Stagecoach."
"September 1995 ASLEF and TSSA accept pay offer but RMT still to decide A bus crash on route 46 injured five passengers The National Heritage Secretary, Virginia Bottomley MP, visited the LT Museum. A report found that the derailment of a District line train was caused by a combination of the track condition and the lightness of a D stock trailer car. Stanmore tube station held a public open day attracting 2,500 visitors."
In August 1995, Routemaster buses provided event transport and took part in the Brighton Routemaster run. Two peak-hour buses were withdrawn after DLR replacement and an open-top bus returned to route 12. A family travel ticket went on sale in selected tube stations and newsagents. The Royal Free Hospital offered a 10% discount on tattoo removals for London Transport employees. Newbury Park bus stand reopened after repairs and Westbourne Park station received a safety upgrade for Notting Hill Carnival. In September 1995, unions dealt with pay offers while RMT delayed a decision, a bus crash injured five, a District line derailment was linked to track condition and light trailer cars, Stanmore station held an open day with 2,500 visitors, charity and enforcement actions occurred, and archaeologists had a 13-week timetable for London Bridge works.
