Cllr Kam Rai stated that Broadmead Road Bridge will remain closed to heavy vehicles indefinitely, pending new government funding to address structural issues.
The bridge, a 90-year-old structure, was closed due to severe defects identified last year, with repairs estimated to cost up to £50 million.
Though currently accessible to pedestrians and some vehicles, Cllr Rai acknowledges the frustrations of the local community affected by the bridge's closure.
Efforts to secure funding are ongoing, with the council lobbying transport officials while noting the extensive work needed to restore the bridge.
