The V&A East Storehouse, opening to the public on 31 May next year, aims to transform how museum collections are accessed with around 250,000 items on display.
Tim Reeve, the deputy director of the V&A, described the storehouse as a 'working building, our collections hub, our Amazon warehouse for the V&A collection', emphasizing its unique public access.
This new location, designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, is expected to host up to 250,000 visitors yearly, providing free entry to engage with non-display collections.
Unlike the previous Blythe House site that saw about 5,000 visitors a year, the new storehouse at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park opens the collections visually for greater public engagement.
