The Crystal Palace Subway, a Grade-II* listed structure dating back to its opening, is undergoing restoration and aims to reopen for its 160th anniversary next year.
The subway features 18 intricately designed stone columns with terracotta-and-cream brickwork, and has been used as an air raid shelter and for community events.
The Crystal Palace High Level Station, once expected to be a passenger hub, saw a decline in ridership and was ultimately closed and demolished, but the subway remains.
Restoration works include new roofing and repairs to walls and entrances, with the Crystal Palace Park Trust set to manage the subway and host public events.
