The creation of a local, specialist children's home service may prevent children from requiring to be placed in a hospital setting, or provide them with a pathway from hospital.
Councillor Oscar Ford stated that the town hall does not operate its own children's homes, relying entirely on the market to provide placements for vulnerable children.
Councillor Keith Darvill highlighted concerns over limited government funding, warning that the cash-strapped council could spend without guaranteed results in securing placements.
Deputy leader Gillian Ford emphasized that the scheme should have been introduced earlier, mentioning the need for vulnerable children to stay near family and friends.
