Building regulations still need 'more teeth' post Grenfell, London fire chief warns
Briefly

London Fire Brigade commissioner Andy Roe emphasized that while significant improvements have been made in fire safety regulations for high-rises since the Grenfell Tower tragedy, they still lack sufficient enforcement and coordination among responsible authorities.
Mr. Roe pointed out that catastrophic fires can still occur under current regulations, highlighting a recent incident in a seven-story building with ongoing cladding removal as evidence that safety measures are insufficient.
He noted that existing powers are scattered among various authorities such as the building safety regulator and local councils, stressing the need for better alignment and cooperation among them to ensure effective fire safety regulations.
Despite acknowledging improvements in call handling during major incidents, Roe admitted that the London Fire Brigade could still struggle during overwhelming situations, as seen during the Grenfell fire.
