Barnet Council's Labour cabinet recently approved a Local Plan guiding housing and employment development until 2036, following extensive public examination. While this plan designates areas for development, it also indicates regions for restriction to better address local needs. However, concerns persist in Edgware town centre over proposed height limits for new developments, particularly with plans for 25 tower blocks and transport infrastructure by developer Ballymore and TfL. Resident opposition has triggered calls for better communication and a review of existing planning directives to alleviate community worries.
Cllr Peter Zinkin highlighted that the council must engage with 5,000 residents who objected to proposals, signaling a communication failure in addressing community concerns.
Lucy Wakeley urged the cabinet to review the 2021 supplementary planning document for Edgware, raising calls to evaluate building height limits amidst ongoing regeneration efforts.
