Wigan appoint ex-Preston boss Lowe as head coach
Briefly

Wigan Athletic has named Ryan Lowe as their new head coach on a three-and-a-half-year contract, succeeding Shaun Maloney. Lowe, previously with Preston North End, aims to strengthen the struggling League One team, currently 15th and facing relegation concerns. He plans to revitalize Wigan, known for its rich history, and hopes to reconnect fans with positive performances. Interim management includes Glenn Whelan and others until Lowe's full backroom team is established. Sporting director Gregor Rioch highlighted Lowe's alignment with the club's ambitions and future direction.
I'm pleased to be here because it's a fantastic football club with history and tradition. The club has had some good times and some bad times, and I'm here to bring the good times back.
Ryan has experienced what we are striving to achieve as a football club, and is someone who is really passionate about our project. Ryan is aligned with our playing identity and naturally fits within our new structure.
