Cedwyn Scott, a forward recently re-joined Carlisle United, spoke about how a break from football allowed him to address his mental health struggles. He experienced deep loneliness, exacerbated by personal circumstances and the breakup of his former team at Notts County. Scott found that isolation negatively impacted his performance on the pitch, leading to challenges in training and scoring. After seeking help last October, he described the break as "life-changing," emphasizing the importance of mental health support in sports, especially for those who often deal with such challenges in isolation.
"As a footballer you don't work the typical nine-to-five and you are not busy all hours of the day, so I found myself in my own company a lot."
"I was finding it difficult to train well if that makes sense. A lot of the things I was trying weren't coming off and I think that comes from the mental side of the game."
