Jordan Pickford celebrated an important victory as Everton bid farewell to Goodison Park with a 2-0 win over Southampton. Iliman Ndiaye's first-half goals secured the last win at the stadium, which has been home to the men's team since 1892. Although Beto had two disallowed goals, and the team survived a scare from Cameron Archer, Pickford emphasized the pride in being the last team to win at Goodison. Manager David Moyes praised the atmosphere and recalled its significance as they look forward to a new era at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
I think we needed to win, Ili scored two great goals. We went 2-0 up and maybe thought it was too easy - we made it hard for ourselves. We'd have liked to score four or five. We've not won [a trophy] but we'll go down in history as the last team to win at Goodison. It's a great feeling.
I had to look beyond all the things going on today - Goodison being in the past after today, it was really important for us all. We did a good job in the first half, not so much in the second half, but we got the victory. I was more impressed by the atmosphere; it was great.
