Barnsley FC has terminated the contract of head coach Darrell Clarke following a disappointing spell in which the team lost seven out of their last eleven matches. This poor run of form has seen them slip out of the play-off spots and down to 10th place in League One. In his place, the club has appointed Conor Hourihane, a former captain and current assistant coach, to take over for the remainder of the season. Chairman Neerav Parekh emphasized the need for a coaching change to restore competitiveness and push for promotion.
"Darrell has worked extremely hard to try and get the team competitive and pushing for promotion, unfortunately, we find ourselves eight points away from the play-offs and feel that a change is needed," chairman Neerav Parekh told the club website.
Barnsley have lost seven of their past 11 matches, which led to a significant drop in their standings, missing out on a crucial play-off position.
