In the League Cup final against Newcastle, Mo Salah experienced an unusually quiet game, marking a rare occurrence in his Reds career. Despite having netted 32 goals this season, Salah struggled to make an impact, which former defender Jamie Carragher noted was partly due to a lack of support from teammate attackers. Carragher called for more forwards to assist Salah and acknowledged Liverpool's overall drop in quality during the match. He emphasized that although Liverpool has had a strong season, this final underlined critical areas for improvement.
It was probably one of the worst performances I've seen from Liverpool in a cup final, but they’ve given so much this season and lost one league game. It’s hard to be too critical but it has shone a light on areas where Liverpool still need to improve.
I almost feel a little bit sorry for Mo Salah. He took a bit of criticism after the two PSG games. He wasn’t great today, and he doesn’t get help from the other attackers.
