Stephen Craigan highlights the appeal for Tottenham’s Jamie Donley to join Northern Ireland's national team, spurred by the success of younger players like Conor Bradley and Daniel Ballard. Despite his experience playing for England's youth teams, Donley, born in Antrim and currently excelling on loan at Leyton Orient, seeks to switch allegiance to benefit his career. Craigan notes that young players who gain international experience are positively impacting their careers, leading Donley to act decisively and join the upcoming friendlies.
I'm quite excited that he wants to come and play for Northern Ireland. He's probably had a look at the likes of Conor Bradley, Daniel Ballard...young guys who have started their international career at a very young age and now started to accumulate a good number of caps.
They are getting good international experience; they are playing first-team football for their clubs and their careers seem to be on an upward trajectory.
Rather than waiting until his mid-20s to make that decision whether he wants to play for Northern Ireland, he's taken a brave but calculated decision that that's what he wants to do.
We're getting a young talented player who is technically very good. He's got a lovely left foot.
