Bulgarian footballer honoured with minute's silence despite not being dead
Briefly

Petko Ganchev, a 78-year-old former footballer, recently experienced a bizarre situation when his former club, Arda Kardzhali, mistakenly honored him with a minute’s silence after wrongly receiving news of his death. Upon hearing of the false report, Ganchev was shocked and distressed, as he had to promptly inform those close to him that he was very much alive. While addressing the situation, he also chuckled at the irony, sharing how he reacted by pouring himself a brandy. Arda later issued a public apology, wishing him many more years of health.
Arda issued an apology, wishing Ganchev many more years of good health, but the 78-year-old said he had been forced to alert everyone he knew of his continuing existence.
I parked in front of our house, entered the yard and my wife greets me crying, shouting: Petko, Petko, they announced on TV that you have died!
Ganchev said Arda's sporting director, Ivaylo Petkov, had phoned him to apologise, and he attempted to retain perspective on a situation he described as not easy at all to deal with.
