A new poll demonstrates that nearly two-thirds of Americans back a reform to the U.S. Supreme Court that President Joe Biden recently announced his support for: the implementation of term limits for justices.
According to an NPR/PBS News/Marist poll, 65% of Americans believe that Supreme Court justices should no longer have lifetime appointments and should only serve for a limited time.
Support for term limits is consistent historically, with 68% backing in 2023 and 72% in 2015, but a slim majority of Republicans, 55%, opposed due to recent far-right decisions.
Reform support was widespread across demographics, though Republicans had a split opinion, with 55% against term limits and 45% in favor, possibly due to recent court decisions.
