Report: Israel Detaining Record Number of Palestinian Children Without Charges
Briefly

According to a recent report by Defense for Children International-Palestine (DCIP), there are over 300 Palestinian children held in Israeli prisons, with 112 in administrative detention—an unprecedented number since monitoring began in 2008. This form of detention constitutes arbitrary detention and violates international humanitarian law. The arrests have escalated as violence surged in the West Bank since October 7, 2023. DCIP reports that Israeli officials have issued threats towards the families of detained children and continue to violate their rights amid the ongoing conflict.
As of December 31, 112 Palestinian children were held in administrative detention, the highest since DCIP began monitoring this issue in 2008.
Detaining children indefinitely, without charge or trial, amounts to arbitrary detention, which is a violation of international humanitarian law.
These children represent over a third of the approximate 300 Palestinian children currently in Israeli prisons, with 500 to 700 detained yearly.
The number of Palestinian children arrested has surged amid escalating Israeli military actions and settlement violence, particularly since October 2023.
