"It's shocking to find that they may have the opposite effect," Norris said, underlining the study's finding that labeling false claims could reinforce existing beliefs among Trump voters.
"Participants who saw tweets labeled as disputed were more likely to rate falsehoods as true, contrary to the intended purpose of labeling misinformation, indicating a cognitive bias," said Blanchard.
