Journalism should not be a crime anywhere on Earth, Biden said in a statement, referencing the detention of journalists in Russia, including RFE/RL's Alsu Kurmasheva and The Wall Street Journal's Evan Gershkovich.
Kurmasheva, a Prague-based journalist with RFE/RL, faces politically motivated charges in Russia under the 'foreign agent' law, while Gershkovich, detained since March, is accused of spying, which he and his employer deny vehemently.
