Mayer Brown plans to step away from its Greater China offices with about 170 lawyers, retaining a smaller office in Hong Kong and moving the majority of staff to a separate independent law firm.
The decision to decrease the number of lawyers in Greater China is attributed to market downturn, data security risks, and the strained US-China relationship.
