Man owed 71-year-old money and had him killed in 2004 to clear debt, CA officials say
Briefly

Antoine Nehme, 73, was convicted of murder in the case of Dennis Wood, a 71-year-old man found shot to death in 2004. Following two decades of investigation, the case was revived when a suspect linked Nehme to the crime in 2010. Earlier this year, co-defendant Alex Bracamonte confessed to killing Wood under Nehme's orders, revealing specific details known only to the killer. Prosecutors alleged Nehme orchestrated the murder to avoid repaying a significant debt owed to Wood.
"I am deeply grateful to the jury for convicting the defendant and to the Ventura County Sheriff's detectives who never gave up on this case," Senior Deputy District Attorney John Barrick said.
Wood was found shot to death inside his Moorpark home during a welfare check April 16, 2004, the Ventura County Sheriff's Office said.
At the time of Wood's death, Nehme owned an Ojai gas station where Bracamonte worked, suggesting a motive tied to financial obligations.
"Rather than repay his debt, Nehme arranged for Wood to be killed to wipe out what he owed," prosecutors alleged.
