GOP states pre-emptively sue to block new debt relief plan
Briefly

A new lawsuit claims the Biden administration will begin discharging billions in student loans as part of a debt relief plan for nearly 28 million Americans.
The lawsuit, filed by Missouri and six other Republican-led states, argues that the education secretary is unlawfully attempting to mass cancel hundreds of billions in loans.
The plaintiffs accuse the Education Department of finalizing a rule aimed at forgiving loans without judicial review, asserting it is politically motivated ahead of the election.
While the final regulations for facilitating loan forgiveness have not been issued yet, the Education Department intends to automatically forgive loans under the planned initiatives.
