Google LLC has successfully dismissed deceptive trade practice claims from the state of Texas, as the appeals court ruled the company lacks sufficient ties to the state.
The Court of Appeals reasoned that the alleged misleading statements made by Google occurred outside of Texas and thus the state had no jurisdiction in the matter.
Despite having 5,500 employees in Texas, the court found that there was no evidence that any of them were involved in making the disputed statements.
This ruling reversed a lower court's decision and highlighted the challenges states face in holding large technology firms accountable for their actions.
