Xiaoning Zhang, 27, of Queens, fatally stabbed her immigration lawyer Jim Li, a Tiananmen Square hero, after he dropped her as a client over inconsistencies in her asylum application.
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz described Jim Li as a "renowned immigration attorney in Flushing" and a "hero for his actions in Tiananmen Square" following Zhang's conviction.
The incident began when Li informed Zhang he could not assist her further; her violent reaction, which included choking him, ultimately led to his tragic murder.
Zhang was found guilty of second-degree murder and several weapon-related charges after she returned with knives and attacked Li just three days after being escorted from his office.
