Marvin Ray Markle Jr. has been sentenced to a second life term for the 1982 murder of 14-year-old De Anna Lynn Johnson, bringing closure to her family. De Anna went missing after attending a party, with her body discovered on railroad tracks the next day. Markle, implicated early due to his violent nature, was later convicted of another murder in 2014. After DNA evidence revived interest in De Anna's case, he was charged and found guilty this year. Witnesses testified to his past confessions regarding De Anna's murder, confirming his guilt beyond reasonable doubt.
On Nov. 15, 1982, De Anna left her residence on Royal Oaks Drive to attend a party a few blocks away. When her brother walked home later that evening, he thought De Anna had already left the party.
He came after me several times,â De Anna's friend Mary Borchers told the Chronicle in 2017. âHe said, 'You'll never get me Mary' and spit on me.
In 2014, Markle was found guilty of first-degree murder in the Butte County homicide, but investigators in Vacaville didn't give up hope on closing De Anna's case too.
Markle went on trial earlier this year; multiple witnesses, including his sister, testified that he'd confessed to the killing over the years.
