"prohibit biologically male students from competing with and against female students in athletic activities with separate classifications for male and female students."
"a health examination and consent form or other statement signed by the student's personal health care provider that verifies the student's biological sex, relying only on one or more of the following: The student's reproductive anatomy, genetic makeup, or normal endogenously produced testosterone levels."
Let's Go Washington collected 445,187 signatures, exceeding the 386,000 required to advance Initiative Measure No. IL26-638. IL26-638 would ban transgender girls from competing in girls' school sports statewide. The measure interprets existing state law as requiring students "to undergo a routine physical examination prior to participation in interscholastic sports, which includes documentation of the student's sex assigned at birth." School districts and nonprofit entities would be required to "prohibit biologically male students from competing with and against female students in athletic activities with separate classifications for male and female students." Students seeking to participate in girls' sports would need a provider-signed health examination verifying biological sex based on reproductive anatomy, genetic makeup, or endogenous testosterone levels. Similar bans have raised controversy because they could subject minors to invasive physical exams. A related federal proposal, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, failed in March.
