Political engagement and voting power are central to resisting suppression and achieving policy wins. Popular participation enabled marriage equality, workplace protections, and same-sex adoption. Activists experience exhaustion, sadness, confusion, and hopelessness as well as love, joy, and generosity. A forward-looking vision centers on a democratically and economically just society where people of all genders and orientations thrive with belonging, self-determination, and bodily autonomy. Three pillars are emphasized: democracy, economy, and care.
