Supreme Court to hear case on the definition of a woman
Briefly

The case has been brought by gender-critical group For Women Scotland against the Scottish government, asking whether a person holding a Gender Recognition Certificate can be legally considered a woman under the 2010 Equality Act.
FWS describes itself as a 'grassroots women's group' that emerged amid concerns over how women's rights would be impacted by the Scottish government's plans to amend the Gender Recognition Act.
Barrister Aidan O'Neill representing FWS labeled the idea of a person with a GRC being a woman as 'legal fiction', claiming that sex is an 'immutable biological state'.
FWS member Susan Smith expressed that if they lose in court, it would render the definition of sex in the Equality Act 'meaningless', creating significant consequences for equality legislation.
