San Francisco Pride is intensifying security measures for upcoming events due to rising concerns about threats against the LGBTQ community, particularly transgender individuals. Executive Director Suzanne Ford highlighted the need for increased funding and security adjustments, revealing that the previous year's event security bill amounted to $635,000. Given the current political climate and recent hostile sentiments in the Bay Area, members of the LGBTQ community feel increasingly vulnerable, emphasizing the importance of safety and protection for event staff and attendees alike.
I expect people are going to be emboldened and we are going to encounter more threats this year.
I think for the two days we spent $3.2 million and $635,000 of that last year was for security.
It's scary at times, we do have higher demands of ensuring security that our staff is also safe.
Everyone unfortunately feels like they have a target on their back.
