Oliver Stark says Buck's bisexuality will be explored more in 9-1-1 season nine
"I do think there's been some ignorance around people thinking that Buck is now a gay man, because since his coming out we've seen him with Tommy, and that's it. And not that he has to now go run off and be with a woman just to balance that out or anything. But there just needs to be conversations to help educate an audience. Not in a heavy way, not in a beating anybody over the head with it, but to delve deeper into it."
"The 34-year-old said he hopes the education comes from "actions" and "conversations" that Buck has with himself, adding that he is confident 9-1-1 will do what it can to "try and highlight that more" as the season goes on. He shared that Buck won't be "actively trying to date anybody" any time soon, but will "find himself in some situations", despite "actively pursuing anything" romantic being out of the question for the moment."
"I see no reason why he won't use the word bisexual, but he's certainly talking about his bisexuality. I don't know if he uses the word, but he's certainly very honest and open about the fact that he is attracted to more than one gender in upcoming episodes."
Season nine will further explore Buck's bisexuality to help educate the audience and quash ignorance through grounded character moments. Viewers have sometimes assumed Buck is gay because his most visible relationship since coming out was with Tommy. The exploration will avoid heavy-handed messaging and instead use conversations and actions to deepen understanding. Buck will not be actively dating, but he will encounter situations that reflect attraction to more than one gender. The portrayal aims to show honesty and openness about bisexuality, with Buck potentially using the word bisexual while navigating his identity in upcoming episodes.
