"I didn't anticipate that we would be using the power of the state to bully transgender children and individuals today," said state Rep. Beth Liston (D) when debating the amended bill.
"As far as protecting girls and women, I will tell you as a woman, I do not want nor need your protection," state Rep. Allison Russo (D) agreed. "This body continues, over and over again, to [...] target and bully children."
S.B. 104 was altered by state Rep. Adam Bird (R) to include H.B. 183's anti-trans bathroom provisions. The bill passed 60 to 31.
"If I had a child who thought he was a bird, am I going to take them to a doctor who tells me the best thing to do is to let him explore being a bird," said State Rep. Beth Lear (R).
