The study found that 552 young people were referred to the service, and of those, 29 ended up identifying with their sex assigned at birth. Only 1.0% did so after starting puberty blockers or hormone replacement therapy.
The researchers were uncertain about the reasons behind re-identification, suggesting pressures from external circumstances like social treatment or family influence.
