The Royal Caribbean liner, Brilliance of the Seas, chartered by Vacaya, rescued 11 refugees found adrift in the Gulf of Mexico after they had been stranded for one to two days. Vacaya's CEO Randle Roper expressed the emotional significance of the event, highlighting the dire situation of the refugees and the immediate assistance provided, including medical care and food. His comments reflect a commitment to philanthropy, emphasizing the intersection of LGBTQ+ rights and refugee support, especially during a time when both communities face significant challenges in America.
In my 22 years in the industry, I've never had such an emotional day. I'm so happy we were able to bring them on board safely and provide medical care, dry clothes, food and, most importantly, water.
The refugees were bailing water out of the boat. It was adrift and taking on water. It was very clear they were in distress.
Two of the most reviled groups in America right now are the LGBTQ+ community and refugees. The fact that we were the ones lucky enough to help them, it feels really, really good.
