Four federal employees filed a complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission challenging a policy that will bar coverage of gender-affirming medical interventions in federal employee health plans effective Jan. 1, 2026. The administration instructed insurers to exclude "chemical and surgical modification of an individual's sex traits through medical interventions" while allowing counseling, including from faith-based providers. The complaint, filed by the Human Rights Campaign on behalf of a class of affected workers, argues the policy violates sex-based protections and cites a postal worker whose daughter has been prescribed puberty blockers and possible hormone therapy.
